Tools -Measuring Tape -Undergarments you plan to wear under the dress (if you don't have it already, wear something similar) -Shoes or shoes with similar heels you plan to wear Before taking your measurements: Stand straight with your heels together and arms down at your sides and your bra or bustier on. (Keep it on for all measurements). To define the waistline correctly, tie the elastic tape around your natural waist and don’t take it off until you finish the measuring. You will use this line as reference for taking other measurements Essentials: 1. Bust Measurement Pass the measuring tape around your back and up to the front, at the level of the fullest part of your bust. 2. Upper Bust Measurement Pass the measuring tape around your back and up to the front, at the level of your armpits. Keep the tape leveled in a straight line across your back and bust. Don’t make it too tight, you should be able to fit a finger between the tape and your body. Don’t hold your breath and pump up your chest, simply relax and breathe normally. 3. Lower Bust Measurement Pass the measuring tape around your back and up to the front, at the level just below your breasts. 4. Waist Measurement Pass the measuring tape along the cord you just attached. Don’t make it too tight, you should be able to fit a finger between the tape and your waist. Remember to keep the tape leveled in a straight line across the back and front of your waist. Don’t breath in and pull in your stomach. 5. Hip Measurement Pass the measuring tape around the widest part of your hips and the fullest part of your bottom. Don’t make it too tight, you should be able to fit a finger between the tape and your hip. 6. Height with shoes: Measure this in your back, go from the top of your head to the floor with your shoes on. 7. Measures your height without shoes Measure this in your back, go from the top of your head to the floor without your shoes. 8. Center of Your Bust Measurement Measure the distance between your nipples. 10. Shoulder to Waist (Front) Measurement Measure the vertical distance from the top of your shoulder to your waist. Make sure the tape passes over the fullest point of your bust, and keep the tape in a straight vertical line. 11. Shoulder to Waist (Back) Measurement Measure from the highest point of the shoulder at the base of the neck to the waist, parallel to the spine. 12. Waist to Train Measurement Measure from your natural waist (backside) to where you want your train to fall with your shoes on. If your dress has no train, measure to the hem of the dress. 13. Waist to Hem Measurement It is recommended to take measurements wearing your wedding shoes/heels. If you don't have the wedding shoes yet, you can wear another pair, with the heel height that’s similar. Measure vertically on the side seam from the waist to the floor. *Hem refers to where you like your dress to end, if your dress is knee or tea length, please don’t measure all the way to floor. 14. Hollow to Hem Measurement Please take this measurement with your shoes on. Stand upright and keep your feet together, and hold the measuring tape at your hollow and pull it down to the floor. Dress With Jacket/Sleeves: 15. Arm Eye Measurement Pass the measuring tape around your armpit and measure the circumference of your sleeve hole. Keep the tape in straight vertical line around your armpit. Don't make it too tight, you should be able to fit one finger between the tape and your body 16. Upper Arm’s Length Measurement 17. Under Arm’s Length Measurement 18. Bicep Measurement Relax your arm and let it hang at your side. Pass the measuring tape around the thickest part of your bicep. Don't make it too tight, you should be able to fit a finger between the tape and your arm. 19. Shoulder to Shoulder Measurement Measure the horizontal distance between the ends of your shoulders. The end of your shoulder is the small bump right before the start of your upper arm. You should keep the tape leveled in a straight line between your shoulders, but keep the tape flattened on your skin. Don’t swell out your chest and push your shoulder blades back, you should relax and stand in a normal standing position. 20. Sleeve Length Measurement Measure from the top of your shoulder, down to the point where you want your sleeve to end (if your dress has sleeves). Your arm should be a little out from your body, not stuck right against your side. For Mermaid Gowns: 21. Waist to Hip Measurement Measure the distance from the back of your waist to the fullest part of your bottom.
