Chelsea had an open training session at Stamford Bridge today, featuring all manner of their first team stars showing the fans what they can do.
It was notable that after an initial walk around, both Kalidou Koulibaly and Thiago Silva left the session.
Presumably both were just being given a little break. Koulibaly won’t play at the weekend because of his suspension, while Silva will need to be extra fresh given that.
There’s no indication that either had an injury of any kind – which is a relief.
As Football.London noted, it left just Ethan Ampadu and Trevoh Chalobah as proper centre backs taking part in the session, reminding us all that we’re still very much short handed at centre back.
Days like today will only reinforce to the decision makers at the club that there’s a real need for more depth at the back. It only took one injury to put us in a pretty perilous position.
