Chelsea are reportedly confident of signing Everton youngster Anthony Gordon this week.
According to The Times, the Blues are “confident” the 21-year-old will complete a transfer to Stamford Bridge imminently.
It is explained there are talks taking place right now for the Everton attacker, who’s valued at a minimum of £50million.
The report explains Chelsea’s opening two bids were rejected by their Premier League rivals, but there’s optimism from the West London camp that this is a deal that will be finalised.
Chelsea confident of signing Gordon
It sounds like there could soon be another talented Englishman in the Chelsea squad.
In fairness, there’s scepticism among the Blues fanbase given that Gordon is yet to produce magical numbers in front of goal. In fact, the winger has only four goals and eight assists in 62 first-team appearances for Everton.
However, he is a very exciting player to watch in the Premier League with his frightening pace and willingness to take on defenders one-on-one.
Described as someone with “explosive pace” by Everton’s Andros Townsend, Gordon definitely looks like he’s got a very high ceiling as his game develops and he gets more experience.
There’s no doubt £50million-plus is a worrying gamble, though.
Also, Thomas Tuchel reportedly has plans to use Everton’s forward as a right wing-back.
If Gordon does join for a colossal sum, he’s got to get proper opportunities on the pitch.
It’s been alarming in the opening games of the season that wingers Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech can’t get into the starting line-up.
Chelsea are crying out for some extra pace and trickery in that attacking trio, something that raw talent Gordon would at least give.
