Good news for Chelsea as flop is finally leaving after forgettable five years

Good news for Chelsea as flop is finally leaving after forgettable five years.

Bakayoko is finally set to leave Chelsea after five years at the club, with the midfielder agreeing a deal with Marseille this summer, although the move is yet to be completed.

The 27-year-old was a huge signing back in 2017, arriving at Stamford Bridge from Monaco for £40m, but things did not work out for the France international.

He featured regularly in his first season with the Blues, making 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and winning the FA Cup.

Things fell apart for him in the Premier League after that, though, and he has not played for Chelsea since the 2017/18 season, instead moving out on a string of loans.

Bakayoko has spent consecutive seasons at AC Milan, Monaco, Napoli and then again at AC Milan, where he won the Serie A title in the last campaign.

French publication Foot Mercato reports that he is now likely to make a permanent move away from west London, after Marseille agreed personal terms with the central midfielder.

The French report states that Marseille boss Igor Tudor has not quite signed off on the deal, though, and needs some convincing from his higher-ups to get on board with the signing.

Valencia are also reportedly interested in Bakayoko and could look to hijack the deal before Marseille get it over the line.

Whether it is to Ligue 1 or La Liga, it does seem certain that Bakayoko will finally move on permanently from Chelsea after becoming one of the more expensive flops in Premier League history.
