Lukaku Offered advice by Mario Melchiot over Chelsea Struggles.

Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku rejoined Chelsea in a big money move worth almost a hundred million pounds last summer but has struggled to live up to the billing in his second stint at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku as a matter of fact had arguably his worst game in a Chelsea shirt last weekend as he had only seven touches during the entire 90 minutes, the fewest a player who lasted the entire duration of the game on the pitch has ever had.

The 29-year old was then benched for Chelsea’s previous game against Lille in the champions league on Tuesday and the performance of Kai Havertz on the night has further thrown doubts into Lukaku’s involvement in Chelsea’s next game which is the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday.

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot has given his candid take on the situation and according to him, Lukaku needs to change and adjust his style of play a little bit in order not to lose his spot to Kai Havertz in the team.

Mario Melchiot: “I think he (Lukaku) has to change his game a little bit. Kai is not that player; he’s not built that way, but I’m surprised he’s so good at turning and facing the opponent’s goal so quickly because he is so tall.”

Melchiot: “Normally, you’ve a small guy. Barcelona played false 9 system under Pep. Havertz doesn’t look like a false 9 but he’s bcos he drops off and finds the pockets. Tuchel is building a system where if Lukaku isn’t doing what he wants him to, he can play the other guy.”

Thomas Tuchel now faces a huge call on who to start as his number 9 between Havertz and Lukaku on Sunday. Would the £100 million man continue to remain on the bench? Only time will tell.
