Did Xavi Just Take a Dig at Arteta Over Aubameyang Following Recent Comments?

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez yesterday made some comments on his club’s new striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and those comments are believed to be a subtle dig aimed at the player’s former coach and former club Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

Recall that Aubameyang was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy in early December last year in controversial circumstance before eventually being shipped out to Barcelona on the winter transfer deadline day.

The 32-year old Gabonese striker who was subject of a disciplinary issue made his first start for Barcelona in the Europa league knockout round against Napoli last night and Barcelona boss Xavi made some pre-match comments that would certainly interest Arsenal.

As quoted by football.london, the Spaniard while speaking on Aubameyang said:

“He is training very well, he needed stronger sessions. He is already 100% and we will see him play for sure. He is a player who can make a difference, he works well in spaces and makes good runs into the area”

“He’s put in performances in recent years that have been very good. I am very happy with him, he is working positively in our group and he is very professional.”

It was Aubameyang’s ‘lack of professionalism’ and supposed disrespect that put an end to his Arsenal career if we are to go by Mikel Arteta’s comments on the striker in the midst of his disciplinary issue at the club a couple of months back but from the look of things Xavi thinks otherwise as he’s labeled the Gabon international as ‘very professional’.
